On Monday, May 8, 2023, after students had been dismissed, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting an active shooting threat at Mary Persons High School. The sheriff’s office responded quickly to the possible threat, and remaining staff and students at Mary Persons’ Main Campus, Freshman Campus and the football complex were placed on lockdown. The Monroe County Board of Education Central Office and the Fine Arts Center were also placed on lockdown. After ensuring the building was safe, MCSO determined that the 911 call was a prank phone call. The lockdown has been lifted at this time. Monroe County Schools thanks the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Administration at Mary Persons High School for their quick response to this potential threat.
