As a reminder, a Remote Learning Day means staff and students will conduct the school day from home. Please check your child’s Google Classroom on Monday morning for assignments for the day. For students in grades PreK-2, your child brought home a remote learning day packet on Friday. Students will have 5 school days to complete assignments.
Visit the Remote Learning Days page on the MCS website for more information. https://www.monroe.k12.ga.us/page/remote-learning-days
It is the intent of the district for face-to-face learning to resume on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

Monroe County Schools officials continue to monitor the possibility of winter weather this weekend. We participated in today’s daily briefing with the National Weather Service. School administration plans to monitor the weather this weekend. A decision will be made on Sunday January 25, 2026, about whether school will be in session on Monday, January 26, 2026.
As a proactive measure, we are preparing the students for the possibility of a remote learning day next week. Your child will come home today with either a remote learning packet or his/her Chromebook, depending on their grade level. Please review the Remote Learning Day information on our website to help your child prepare for that possibility. Remote learning may not be possible if there are widespread power outages. However, we stand ready if necessary. Again, as of right now, we are planning to have school on Monday.

🌱 Growing Educators. Growing Students.

We are excited to announce that Monroe County Schools has been named the #14 Best School District in Georgia by Niche.
The 2026 Best School Districts ranking is based on rigorous analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents using data from the U.S. Department of Education. Ranking factors include state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, teacher quality, public school district ratings, and more.
Thank you to our students, staff, and families for your hard work and commitment to excellence. You are the reason we remain one of the best districts in the state. #LearnGrowSucceed

“We are excited once again to announce an increase in our 4-year graduation rate. This accomplishment indicates a strong focus on teaching and learning, in a culture and climate of high expectations,” said Monroe County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jim Finch. “We specifically want to graduate students on time with the skills they need to be successful. We appreciate our students, teachers, staff, administrators, and community for helping us reach this graduation rate. Moving forward, our mission is simple: learn, grow, succeed. We will continue to chase this mission until we graduate 100% of our students.”
“Mary Persons High School’s exceptional graduation rate is a testament to the collective efforts of our entire school community. Our dedicated teachers provide high-quality instruction and inspiration, our families offer unwavering support and encouragement, and our students demonstrate commitment and perseverance each day," said Sherondah Epps, principal at Mary Persons High School. “It is an honor to lead a school that upholds high expectations, believes in the potential of every student, and works collaboratively to help them achieve their goals.”
Georgia’s high-school seniors recorded another all-time-high graduation rate – and significant year-over-year improvement – in 2025. The four-year graduation rate rose to 87.2% -- up from 85.4% in 2024, and an all-time high since the state began using the adjusted cohort calculation first required in 2011 by federal law.
