The Monroe County Board of Education will meet in called session on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. in the boardroom at the Central Office. The purpose of this meeting is: Millage Rate Public Hearing, Funding approval for the Fieldhouse/Stadium Renovations, & Personnel
On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, a Monroe County Middle School staff member accidentally set off a Centegix lockdown at MCMS and TG Scott Elementary School. No students were in danger at any time. The staff member was attempting to call for help using a staff alert for a medical emergency, but triggered the Code Red lockdown by pressing the alert button too many times. Because the two campuses are so close together, when one school locks down, the other is immediately locked down for student safety. Again, no students were in any danger.
The Centegix incident response system is new to Monroe County, and will increase the safety of our students, staff, and visitors. We will continue training with our staff to ensure the proper alerts are issued in the future. Portia Lyons, nutrition manager at K.B. Sutton Elementary, finds innovative new ways to meet the needs of her students. A share cart reduces hunger and food waste by keeping unopened foods that would otherwise be thrown away. On Friday, May 17, 2024, a Monroe County School Bus was involved in an accident with another vehicle at the intersection of Highway 83 N and Old Cabiness Road. It happened around 4:30 p.m. No students were on the bus at the time. The drivers of both vehicles were taken to the hospital for treatment. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the accident. Monroe County Schools would like to thank the MCSO for their quick response to today’s accident.
