Our Mary Persons Softball Team spent the morning working on a campus beautification project. The girls and their coaches, plus MP Principal Tammy Marion and MP Asst. Principal Sherondah Strode, painted the curbs and spread pine straw around campus. What a great display of #chaMP behavior! Way to go, ladies! #LearnGrowSucceed #CommittedToExcellence

Between preparing delicious food, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile, Monroe County nutrition professionals have a lot on their plate. To celebrate their hard work and commitment, Monroe County schools will celebrate School Lunch Hero Day on May 3. The School Nutrition Association and Jarrett Krosoczka, author of the “Lunch Lady” graphic novel series, designated this day, celebrated annually since 2013. School Lunch Hero Day provides an opportunity for parents, students, school staff and communities to thank those who provide healthy meals to nearly 30 million of America’s students each school day. “School nutrition employees must balance many roles and follow numerous federal, state and local regulations to ensure safe and healthy meals are available in schools,” said Danny Durham Jr., SNP director. “School Lunch Hero Day provides the opportunity for the community to thank these hard working heroes for their dedication to fueling our students for success.” Federal nutrition standards ensure that school cafeterias always offer low-fat or fat-free milk, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein. School meals also meet limits on calories, sodium and unhealthy fats. The importance and nutritional value of school meals are well documented. For many children, school lunch is the most important and nutrient-rich meal of their day. #FuelingGA #CommittedToExcellence #learngrowsucceed

Members of the Mary Persons High School Class of 1960 returned to their old stomping grounds Wednesday to see how their former school had changed. They toured the halls of the Central Office, marveling at the changes and reminiscing of days past. They stood on the same stage where they graduated, and discussed the friends and teachers they encountered at MPHS. As an added bonus, they received a special technology lesson and got to experience our zSpace 3D computers first hand. This close group gets together every other month to have lunch and take part in an activity. We're thrilled that they chose to visit us this month. #LearnGrowSucceed #CommittedToExcellence

The students in the Garden Club at T.G. Scott Elementary School have been having fun in the garden. They planted broccoli seeds, watered their plants, and checked on them. When the plants were big enough, they got to taste them, and enjoy vegetables right out of the garden that they grew themselves. The students in the first grade Garden Club are very proud of the vegetables that they grew! Thanks to Mrs. Nell Onstott for heading up the Garden Club, and inspiring kids to enjoy gardening and eat fresh vegetables. #LearnGrowSucceed #CommittedToExcellence #GAf2sinnovation #FuelingGA
