After consulting with the Monroe County EMA and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and inspecting roads around the county, Monroe County Schools will return to normal operations for Friday, January 24, 2025. All staff and students should arrive at their normal times. Please allow extra time for your morning drive, and use extreme caution as there may be a few spots of black ice on less traveled roadways.

Based on the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, Monroe County Schools will remain on an alternative learning day schedule for Wednesday, January 22, 2025 due to expected early morning road conditions. Staff will work from home. Monroe County Schools will assess any remaining weather conditions as well as the road situation and make a decision about Thursday, January 23, on Wednesday afternoon.

MCS administrators are closely monitoring the weather conditions for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. They viewed a webinar from the National Weather Service today. It is too soon to know how our area will be affected. Our admin team will continue to watch the weather throughout the holiday weekend and stay in touch with the NWS. If any schedule adjustments are needed, MCS will announce them via text, email, phone calls, and social media posts.

Monroe County Schools attended a second briefing with the National Weather Service today about the possibility of winter weather. Due to the chance of ice in the morning, Monroe County Schools will be closed for students and staff on Friday, January 10, 2025. Current forecasts predict freezing rain and ice beginning as early as 4 a.m. All extracurricular activities will be canceled for Friday and Saturday. Classes will resume on Monday, January 13, 2025.

Monroe County Schools attended a briefing with the National Weather Service today about the possibility of winter weather later this week. It’s too soon to tell exactly how the potential winter storm will affect our area, but the NWS says there is the possibility of a mixture of sleet, freezing rain, or even snow. We will attend another weather briefing tomorrow before making any decisions about schedule changes.
In the meantime, please make sure your contact information is updated in Infinite Campus so we can reach you if necessary. We will use this information to call or text you if we make any adjustments to the school schedule. Also, download our Monroe County Schools app in the App or Google Play Stores, and make sure you enable notifications. It’s the fastest way for us to get urgent information to you.
