Pre-K registration for the 2026-2027 school year starts one week from today, April 14, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. The process will be solely online again this year. You will click the registration link on the top of our district or school websites. From there, you will be prompted to fill out the registration application and upload your required documents (listed below). You will not need to bring them to the board office. Once you've submitted your application, it will be time-stamped to indicate the order we receive them. Pre-K slots will be filled on a first-come, first served basis, so don't wait.

On Friday, March 27, 2026, a T.G. Scott Elementary School staff member accidentally set off a Centegix lockdown at TGS and Monroe County Middle School. No students were in danger at any time. Because the two campuses are so close together, when one school locks down, the other is immediately locked down for student safety. Again, no students were in any danger.

Monroe County Schools will operate on a delayed schedule on Monday, March 16, 2026, due to the threat of severe weather during the morning commute. All schools will begin at 10 a.m. Buses will be on a two-hour delay. Please use caution when traveling to school in the morning. Faculty and staff should report by 9:30 a.m. Student drop off can begin occurring at 9:30 a.m.
Monroe County Schools administrators are actively monitoring the potential for severe weather tonight and tomorrow morning. If needed, we will announce any schedule changes via phone call, email, text alert and social media. On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, the Monroe County Board of Education approved the appointment of Ms. Daphene Blash as Principal of Samuel E. Hubbard Elementary School effective July 1, 2026. Ms. Blash is in her 14th year in education and is currently the Assistant Principal at Thomas G. Scott Elementary School. Prior to her time at TGS, Ms. Blash spent two years as the Assistant Principal at Katherine B. Sutton Elementary School. She has also worked in Monroe County as the Instructional Coach at KBS, and as a teacher at Monroe County Middle School, where she was the Teacher of the Year in 2019.
Ms. Blash has a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, a Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Grades Education. She is currently working to obtain her Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction.
In recommending Ms. Blash to this position, Dr. Jim Finch, Monroe County Schools Superintendent, said, “Throughout the interview process, it was apparent Ms. Blash was the right fit to continue moving Hubbard Elementary forward. Her command of curriculum, instruction, operations, school safety, culture and climate were second to none. We are proud of Ms. Blash’s accomplishments in Monroe County and we look forward to her leadership at Hubbard Elementary. ”
Ms. Blash will replace Dr. MeQuanta McCord, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Monroe County Schools will be closed Monday, February 16, for Winter Break. Staff will return on Tuesday, February 17, for an in-service day, while our students enjoy another day at home. Classes will resume on Wednesday, February 18. #LearnGrowSucceed #CommittedToExcellence
On Monday, February 9, 2026, students and staff at Samuel E. Hubbard Elementary heard gunshots in the distance while at recess on the playground. Students and staff were brought inside immediately, and the school resource officer responded to the area where the sound originated. According to the school resource officer, individuals in a field on private property along the Old Brent Road area were firing guns. No students were harmed, and shots were not fired at the school. Monroe County Schools thanks the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the school resource officer for their quick response to the situation.
Monroe County Schools will return to normal operating hours on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Students and staff will report to campus at their regularly scheduled times. Please make sure students charge their Chromebooks today, then return the Chromebooks and chargers tomorrow. Remember, students have 5 days to complete their remote learning assignments.

School administration plans to monitor the weather this weekend. A decision will be made on Sunday January 25, 2026, about whether school will be in session on Monday, January 26, 2026.
As a proactive measure, we are preparing the students for the possibility of a remote learning day next week. Your child will come home today with either a remote learning packet or his/her Chromebook, depending on their grade level. Please review the Remote Learning Day information on our website to help your child prepare for that possibility. Remote learning may not be possible if there are widespread power outages. However, we stand ready if necessary. Again, as of right now, we are planning to have school on Monday.
