September 6, 2024 - On Thursday, September 5, 2024, Monroe County Schools Officials were alerted about a possible school threat made via social media. The post was reported and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office began investigating. The MCSO also provided extra deputies to all MCS campuses today.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Chris Cooper, 26, on charges of Dissemination of Information Relating to Terroristic Threats. He was also served with a Temporary Protective Order. He is being held without bond.
Monroe County Schools is grateful to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Forsyth Police Department for their quick response to this situation.

On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, a Monroe County Middle School staff member accidentally set off a Centegix lockdown at MCMS and TG Scott Elementary School. No students were in danger at any time. The staff member was attempting to call for help using a staff alert for a medical emergency, but triggered the Code Red lockdown by pressing the alert button too many times. Because the two campuses are so close together, when one school locks down, the other is immediately locked down for student safety. Again, no students were in any danger.
The Centegix incident response system is new to Monroe County, and will increase the safety of our students, staff, and visitors. We will continue training with our staff to ensure the proper alerts are issued in the future. A share cart reduces hunger and food waste by keeping unopened foods that would otherwise be thrown away.
