Mrs. Elder is beginning her 25th year in education with this year marking her eighth year as the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning for Monroe County Schools.  Mrs. Elder began her teaching career in 1999 as a teacher and coach at Upson Lee Middle School in Thomaston, Georgia.  Mrs. Elder taught science for three years and coached middle school cheerleading and softball.  At the conclusion of the 2002 school year, Mrs. Elder made the transition to assistant principal and served 1 year as an assistant principal at Upson Lee Middle School, followed by 5 years as an assistant principal at Hubbard Elementary School in Forsyth, Georgia.  Prior to serving as principal at K.B. Sutton Elementary for five years, Mrs. Elder served three years as principal of Upson Lee South Elementary School in Thomaston, Georgia.  

Mrs. Elder received her Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from Georgia Southern University in 1999, Master of Education Degree from Georgia Southwestern State University in 2001, Educational Leadership Endorsement from Troy State University in 2003, and Specialist in Educational Leadership Degree from Cambridge College in 2007. 

Mrs. Elder serves as a member of One Monroe, Forsyth-Monroe County Rotary Club, Monroe County Literacy Council, Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE), Georgia Association of Educational Leaders (GAEL), Georgia Association of Curriculum and Instructional Supervisors (GACIS), Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), and the Georgia Association of Gifted Children (GAGC).

Mrs. Elder is a native of Statesboro, Georgia and graduated from Statesboro High School in 1995.  She is married to Justin (former MP grad) who currently teaches Economics and is the Head Football Coach at Upson Lee High School in Thomaston, Georgia.  They have three children (Charleigh - 2023 Mary Person High School graduate; Olivia-11th grader at Mary Persons High School; and Sam-4th grader at S. E. Hubbard Elementary School). Mrs. Elder and her family reside in rural Culloden, Georgia.  Mrs. Elder loves spending time with her family and friends, volunteering at local events, and vacationing at their family’s favorite spot in Siesta Key, Florida.  Mrs. Elder and her family are advocates for children with disabilities.  They are active supporters of the Best Buddies Program at Mary Persons High School, as well as the Williams Syndrome Association.
