Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics

STEM Program Information:
STEM education is defined as an integrated curriculum that is driven by problem solving, discovery, exploratory project/problem-based learning, and student-centered development of ideas and solutions.

All schools in our district are implementing STEM activities and lessons, focusing on the engineering design process.

STEM Competitive Teams:

The Monroe County School System sponsors six competitive robotics teams. The high school team competes through First Tech Challenge and the elementary and middle school teams compete through First Lego League. Students are judged in 4 areas: Robot Design, Robot Programming, Teamwork, and a Community Project.

  • Mary Persons High School First Tech Challenge Team (Serverus)

  • Monroe County Middle School 7/8th Grade Team (Coding Canines)

  • Monroe County Middle School 6th Grade Team (Robo Dogs)

Our elementary and middle schools also compete in Science Olympiad competitions. Science Olympiad competitions are like academic track meets; they consist of a series of team events which are rotated to reflect the nature of earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering, and technology. Elementary Science Olympiad also contains a Math 24 Tournament.
