No Charge Breakfast & Lunch
News Release October 20, 2020
Monroe County Schools announced today that breakfast and lunch meals will be available to all students at no charge through the rest of the 2020-2021 school year. This news came from Director of School Nutrition Lisa Budd after recent action by the U.S.Department of Agriculture (USDA) to extend the provisions of the Seamless Summer Option Waiver.
“This benefit comes with a debt of gratitude to the USDA which recognizes the need to serve our students consistent healthy and balanced meals during this most dynamic time,” said Budd. “We hope that all students will join us Mondays through Fridays for both breakfast and lunch and enjoy the tasty meals being prepared with love by our very own School Nutrition staff.”
Mrs. Budd stated that the School Nutrition staff is working diligently to continue to innovate and create new meal offerings so students may experience several choices for each meal service. “We look forward to seeing your student soon!” she said.
The no charge meal service was implemented earlier this school year to run through the end of December. However, with continuing issues related to Covid-19 and the pandemic, the USDA extended provisions through the entire 2020-21 school year. Meals are available to all face-to-face students in the Monroe County School System as well as those students who are learning on-line and who have registered to receive the meals on selected days.
