Spending Resolution Approved
At its June 9, 2020 meeting, the Monroe County Board of Education approved a Spending Resolution for the 2020-21 Fiscal Year.
Because of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Georgia General Assembly has not been able to complete its 2020 legislative session which includes approval of a 2021 budget. With nearly half of the Board of Education’s revenue coming from state funds, the local school board will not be able to finalize a budget for the 2020-21 prior to the July 1 beginning of the fiscal year.
The Spending Resolution authorizes the Superintendent and system administration to continue the business of the school system into July without an approved budget.
The Monroe County School System continues work, on its FY 2021 budget and will be watching the General Assembly’s actions as it reconvenes its session next week.
