Monroe County Educator Dr. Dick Bazemore Honored as 2019 Georgia National Distinguished Principal

Dr. Richard Bazemore, principal at T. G. Scott Elementary School in Forsyth ,Georgia was named the Georgia 2019 National Distinguished Principal by the Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals (GAESP). Dr. Bazemore will be awarded a check for $2,000 through the sponsorship of national K-12 publisher Mentoring Minds, a partner of GAESP. He and his fellow state winners will be honored during the 2019 National Distinguished Principal event in October in Washington, D.C.

“Dr. Bazemore’s commitment to excellence is reflected in programs designed to meet the academic and social needs of all children and the establishment of community ties with parents and local business organizations,” said Hal Beaver, executive director, GAESP. “He has put the progress and the well-being of every child at the forefront of school planning and operations and his students are on the road to a quality education because of his efforts.”

Dr. Bazemore has been principal of T.G. Scott Elementary for the past fifteen years and began with a strong vision from the very start. Dr. Bazemore was committed to creating a warm and inviting environment for all his students and staff from day one. In 2018, T. G. Scott was one of eighty-one schools out of thirteen-hundred to be named to be named a Georgia Highest Performing Title I Rewards School recognizing the top 5% in the state.

Teachers at T. G. Scott Elementary School recognize Dr. Bazemore as “a consummate professional, dynamic leader, and effective communicator,” and praise him for spending time in the classrooms and at school events in order to make his presence known to students, staff, and parents.

“In addition to his outstanding performance in the education arena, Dr. Bazemore is a true public servant who gives selflessly of his time to serve his community. He has been a member of the Middle Georgia Regional Commission since 2006 and will become the Chairman of the Board later this year. He and I have served on the Board together for several years and I can personally attest to his unwavering devotion,” stated Forsyth Mayor Eric Wilson.

As an instructional leader, he consistently exhibits the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to ensure success for his students and staff. “Dr. Bazemore model’s collaboration by empowering his entire staff to help lead the work with the implementation of data team professional learning,” states Superintendent Mike Hickman.

Dr. Bazemore earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. He returned to college, obtaining a master’s degree from Georgia Southwestern University, and an Educational Doctorate in Leadership from NOVA Southeastern University.
