Notice of Public School Choice - As required by HB 251

Based on Georgia law, parents of students enrolled in Georgia public schools may request to transfer their child to another school within the school district if the district determines there is classroom space available. Based on the HB 251 law requirements, classroom space is available for K. B. Sutton Elementary School with one slot at fourth grade and two slots at fifth grade available.  

Should a transfer request be approved for these spaces, the parent is responsible for all transportation. This transfer request is contingent upon any special programs the student may be enrolled in (English Language Learner Program or Special Education Program) which may require placement at a designated school where programs are housed. This is a one year only transfer with the HB 251 transfer expiring at the end of the 2021-2022 school year, and the student returning to their zoned school for the following school year. 

The district will accept transfer requests between Monday, June 21 through Tuesday, July 6 for these spaces. Applicants will be notified the week of July 12 - 16 of their application status.  Applications should be submitted to Dr. Valerie Mercer, Chief Technology Officer for Monroe County Schools.
